Extradition processes are complex and each one has its peculiar dynamics, depending on the country involved. Expert prosecutors in the NPA have been dealing with extradition cases for many years.

The KwaBhaca Regional Court sentenced Ntshatsheli Nogcantsi (36), to 15 years imprisonment for raping a 24-year-old woman.  The court also sentenced him to five years, for kidnapping but ordered the sentence to run concurrently with the 15-year term.

The NPA’s Free State Division hosted an anti-corruption and commercial crime indaba, that was held at Bloem Spa for two days on 16-17 May 2022. The event was attended by various stakeholders in the criminal justice cluster, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI), South African Revenue Service (SARS), Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

BLOEMFONTEIN: Two of the three men, who raped a 14-year-old girl, were sentenced to life imprisonment each, by the Bloemfontein Sexual Offences Court. Magistrate Jan Greyvensteyn, sentenced Lerato Mahumapelo (25) and Tlogelo Mooki (23), both from Rocklands, Bloemfontein, for an incident that took place on 16 December 2017. The complainant committed suicide, while the matter was still in court.

The High Court of South Africa: The Mpumalanga Division has today sentenced Nicholas Hendrick Janse Van Rensburg (40), from Komatipoort to two life terms for the rape and murder of an adult woman, Zitha Andiswa Nancy. The accused was known as a motor mechanic in the area, whilst the accused and Vuma were residing in the area where the incident happened.  On 12 October 2019, Zitha, the deceased, and the accused were at Vision Four Tavern, with Bheki Vuma and other people.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in the Gauteng Local Division, Adv. AndrewChauke, welcomed the sentence of life imprisonment that was handed down by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Local Division, Johannesburg on 21 June 2022, in a gender-based violence case against Kabelo Gift Rasepae, for killing his girlfriend in January 2020.

The NPA in the Eastern Cape has recently obtained some notable convictions in cases involving fraud and corruption. They also give insight into how corrupt public officials have managed to manipulate financial management systems, either on their own or in collaboration with others.

Today, the Pietermaritzburg High Court (sitting in Scottburgh), sentenced Sanele Siyabonga Mbuso Sotobe Sibiya (37), to 123 years imprisonment, following his conviction on a string of offences including housebreaking, theft, robbery, attempted rape, rape and attempted murder.

The Camperdown Regional Court has sentenced seven men: Mlamuli Mntungwana (38), Sipho Mkhwanazi (52), Felamandla Mpanza (45), Nhlakanipho Mkhwanazi (33), Thembinkosi Ngema (41), Sabelo Mathola (32) and Njabulo Ncube (32), to 10 years imprisonment, three of which were suspended with conditions, after they pleaded guilty to tampering, damaging or destroying of essential infrastructure or colluding and assisting another person to do so.
