UPINGTON MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER SETTING PARTNER ALIGHT

Upington, Northern Cape – The Upington Regional Court has sentenced Heinrich Van Wyk (35) to 12 years’ direct imprisonment for the attempted murder of his 32-year-old life partner, whom he set alight during a violent domestic dispute in September 2019.

Sasolburg, Free State – The Sasolburg Regional Court has sentenced a 49-year-old father to life imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old biological daughter. Magistrate Phakama Ngewu presided, and Regional Court Prosecutor Ntombi Marase successfully prosecuted the case. The sentencing was delivered today, 09 September 2025.

Schweizer-Reneke, North West – The Schweizer-Reneke Regional Court has convicted and sentenced 29-year-old Otsile William Mopalami to 14 years’ imprisonment for raping his ex-girlfriend in May 2022. The sentencing was delivered yesterday, 08 September 2025.

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development has approved the National Director of Public Prosecutions’ request for the holding of a joint inquest into the deaths of five youngsters killed by the Apartheid regime’s South African Defence Force (SADF) during an attack at the home of a Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) member.

LESOTHO NATIONAL SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR TAMPERING WITH ESSENTIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Bafokeng, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence of 10 years’ direct imprisonment handed down by the Bafokeng Regional Court to Malopi Stephen Shakane (44), a Lesotho national, for tampering with essential infrastructure. He was further sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for contravening Section 49(1)(a) of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
