LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDERERS 

The Ntuzuma Regional Court has sentenced two men, Sthembele Nongqakanga (27) and Jan Sinqina (21), to life imprisonment each for the murder of 23-year-old Lebohang Mabuya. The murder occurred in May 2024 in the Etafuleni area of Inanda, north of Durban. The accused were known to the deceased, as they lived in proximity and would on occasion socialise together.

STEPFATHER SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE 

Limpopo, South Africa – The Thabamoopo Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old man from Magatle to life imprisonment for the rape of his 13-year-old stepdaughter. The name of the accused is withheld to protect the victim from secondary victimisation.

LENGTHY IMPRISONMENT FOR A REPEAT OFFENDER 

Springbok, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and sentencing of Marvin De Klerk (40) to 25 years’ direct imprisonment by the Springbok Regional Court for the rape of a 43-year-old woman. The conviction and sentence stem from an incident that occurred on 15 July 2024 in the small mining town of Nababeep, approximately 20 kilometres from Springbok.

RAPIST SENTENCED TO TWO LIFE TERMS 

Molopo, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and sentencing of 49-year-old Sello Mosikwa to two life terms by the Molopo Regional Court for two separate rape offences committed in 2024. The court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

NPA SECURES CONVICTION AND IMPRISONMENT IN COMPLEX PAYROLL FRAUD CASE 

Augrabies, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has secured the conviction and sentencing of Elizabeth Christina Smith in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court (SCCC) sitting in Augrabies. Smith was convicted on 242 counts of fraud to the value of R896 506.95 and 242 counts of money laundering.

GUESTHOUSE OWNER CONVICTED AND SENTENCED FOR DOUBLE MURDER OF GUEST COUPLE 

The Gqeberha Regional Court has sentenced Kareedouw guesthouse owner, Kevin Pretorius (53), to an effective 10-year term of direct imprisonment following his conviction on two counts of murder. Pretorius was found guilty in January 2025 for the deaths of Mari Hoon (28) and her fiancé, Jean Vosloo (25), who succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning while staying at his Kliphuis Guesthouse in April 2020.

KURUMAN REGIONAL COURT SENTENCES MAN TO 15 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR HOUSEBREAKING WITH INTENT TO RAPE AND RAPE 

Kuruman, Northern Cape – The Kuruman Regional Court has sentenced Tshepo Tumaeletse (28) of Ganap village near Kuruman to 15 years’ imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to rape and rape.
