YOUNGER BROTHER GETS LIFE TERM FOR MURDER OF OLDER BROTHER

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has ensured that Anele Jika (31) is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 33-year-old brother, Vuyo Jika. The incident occurred on 20 October 2024 at Ndingishe locality, Rooiwal, following a domestic dispute at the family homestead. Evidence presented before the court revealed that an argument arose between the brothers, resulting in the younger brother chasing away another older sibling from the homestead. The deceased, together with his wife and another brother, later left the residence after the dispute remained unresolved.

NPA SECURES LIFE SENTENCE AGAINST RAPIST AND MURDERER OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence imposed by the High Court sitting in the Eastern Cape Division, Makhanda, in which Nhlanhla Vinjwa, a 33-year-old Maletswai resident, was sentenced to effective life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl. The court found that on 24 July 2024, the Vinjwa encountered the child while she was on her way to her grandmother’s home and lured her into his residence, where he raped, assaulted, and killed her by strangulation using a belt.

MOTHER AND HER LOVER SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING HER CHILDREN

Bloemfontein, Free State – The Bloemfontein Sexual Offences Court delivered judgment in a case involving the prolonged sexual abuse of three minor children. The court convicted and sentenced two accused persons, Vumani Rethabile Tshabalala (36) and a 33-year-old mother of the children (the accused cannot be named to protect the victims), on multiple charges of rape, sexual exploitation, and assault.

NPA SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSES SERGEANT NKOSI'S BAIL APPEAL

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the judgment of the Pretoria High Court, which upheld the decision of the Pretoria North Magistrates' Court to deny bail to Sergeant Fannie Ezekiel Nkosi (43).

The High Court found that the magistrate did not err in refusing bail and confirmed that the decision was properly made in the circumstances of the case.

AFU OBTAINS ORDER FOR RETURN TO VICTIM OF R1.7 MILLION STOLEN IN ONLINE SCAM

The NPA’s Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in KuGompo City has successfully obtained a forfeiture order in the High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division, sitting in Makhanda, declaring an amount of R1.7 million held in a Standard Bank account in the name of Mandisa Ntauzana (Pty) Ltd to be forfeited to the State, and payable to the victim of the causal unlawful activities. This follows a preservation of property order granted by the Court on 22 January 2026 in terms of section 38 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998.

DNA BREAKTHROUGH LEADS TO LIFE SENTENCE FOR WELKOM MAN IN COLD CASE RAPE

Welkom, Free State – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and sentencing of 48-year-old Mzimkhulu Binda by the Welkom Regional Court for housebreaking, rape, and kidnapping committed against a 21-year-old woman in a case that remained unsolved for years until a DNA breakthrough linked him to the crime.

The court sentenced Binda to three years' direct imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to commit an offence, life imprisonment for rape, and five years' imprisonment for kidnapping.

BOTHAVILLE MAN SENTENCED TO TWO LIFE TERMS FOR RAPING HIS TWO NIECES

Bothaville, Free State – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the sentencing of a Bothaville man to two life imprisonment terms for the rape of his two minor nieces.

The accused voluntarily presented himself at the Bothaville Police Station and confessed to having sexual intercourse with the two children, who were living with him and his wife, between 2017 and 2018.

FORMER KIMBERLEY ATTORNEY AND CONVEYANCER SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS' DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT AND MONEY LAUNDERING

Kimberley, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and sentencing of former Kimberley attorney and conveyancer, Leanne Katherine Sullaphen Macleod (56), by the Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for theft and money laundering involving more than R4.6 million in client trust funds.

LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR COUSINS WHO KILLED WRONG MAN IN CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence of life imprisonment imposed by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on cousins Mthokozisi Ngwane (34) and Sanele Mqondisi Ngwane (37) following their conviction on one count of murder, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.

The murder occurred in the Himeville area in February 2023.

TWO SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has secured life imprisonment sentences against 33-year-old Mntuwasekhaya Mpayipheli and 30-year-old Zimbabwean national Thabiso Bovora Raganay for the murder of Simon Mpayipheli, a well-known taxi operator and philanthropist in the Elundini area. Mntuwasekhaya is the son of the deceased. The Tlokoeng Regional Court (formerly Mount Fletcher Regional Court) sentenced both accused to life imprisonment for murder.
