A Bookkeeper Sentenced For Stealing Covid-19 Ters Fund

The Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in Palm Ridge has sentenced a bookkeeper, Lindelani Gumede, to 135 years, for theft of the Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) Fund. Some of the sentences were ordered to run concurrently, resulting in 20 years of direct imprisonment. 

 

A Medical Doctor Appears In Court For Raping A Teenager

A Kimberley medical practitioner, accused of rape has made a first appearance in the Kimberley District Court. The suspect is accused of raping a 17-year-old patient at his surgery. It is alleged that on 15 August 2022, the 17-year-old victim went to the accused surgery, for medical consultation.

Three Life Terms For Triple Murder Accused

The High Court of South Africa: Eastern Cape Division, sitting in Mthatha, sentenced Mandisi Makhanda (37), to three life imprisonment terms for killing three members of one family. In addition, the court sentenced him to a cumulative 15-year sentence, for robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms, with intent to commit an offence, and possession of firearms and ammunition.

Corruption Charges Against ANC Amathole Regional Secretary And Co-Accused Reinstated

The charges against ANC Amathole Regional Secretary Thembalethu “Teris” Ntutu, and 17 others, including businesspeople and their companies, as well as former and current employees of Mnquma Local Municipality, have been reinstated.  Fifteen of the accused briefly appeared in the High Court of South Africa: Eastern Cape Division, sitting in Mthatha, today and the case was adjourned to 09 September 2022, for cash-flow management.

Man Accused Of Raping A 14-Year-Old Girl Appears In Court

The Springbok District Court has postponed the case of rape against Majid-Ali Jabbar(25), after the accused was arrested and charged with raping a 14-year-old girl, in the town of Springbok in the Northern Cape. The case was postponed for an Urdu Interpreter (the National Language of Pakistan), as well as to allow the accused to consult with his attorney for a possible bail application.

Terrorism Accused Fails To Appear At High Court

In what was expected to be his first high court appearance, Zandile Christmas Mafe did not show up at the High Court of South Africa: Western Cape, despite being in the holding cells of the court.  His case was number three, in a pre-trial roll with 18 pre-trial cases, divided between two courts.  After a few minutes, a court orderly came up and told the court that they were facing a predicament as the accused was lying on the floor and said nothing.

Pastor Sentenced To Two Life Terms For Rape Of Children

The Pretoria High Court sitting in Benoni Magistrate’s Court, sentenced Pastor Lucky Mfanivele Magagula (36), to two life terms for rape, exposing children to pornography, sexual assault, exposing his genitals to children and sexually grooming six minor children, aged 3,4,6,8,9 years old.  The Judge ordered that his name be added to the national register for sexual offenders and that he be declared unfit to possess a firearm.
