KATISO MOLEFE GRANTED R400 000 BAIL

10 OCTOBER 2025

KATISO MOLEFE GRANTED R400 000 BAIL

Katiso Molefe (61) was granted bail of R400 000 by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Local Division in Johannesburg. The decision follows the dismissal of his earlier bail application by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.   The State argued that the appellant has a circle of influence and resources, making him more capable of evading justice or interfering with witnesses. However, the court found that Molefe has proven, on a balance of probabilities, that exceptional circumstances exist which, in the interest of justice warrant his release on bail.

Molefe is accused of orchestrating a series of contract killings alongside his co-accused, including the murder of DJ Sumbody. They face multiple charges, including Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder linked to an alleged organised crime network targeting DJs. Further evidence allegedly connects the same high-calibre rifles used in Oupa Sefoka, also known as DJ Sumbody’s murder to other killings, including those of DJ Vintos, Hector Buthelezi and Armand Swart.

The NPA respects the court’s decision to grant Molefe bail but maintains that the charges against him are serious and linked to organised crime. The State remains committed to ensuring justice is served through a fair trial.
