NPA WELCOMES THE SCA JUDGMENT UPHOLDING IDAC’S APPEAL IN NULANE  CORRUPTION CASE

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the Supreme Court of Appeal judgment upholding the appeal by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) against the judgment of Acting Judge Gusha. On 21 April 2023, Acting Judge Gusha discharged the accused in the Nulane case in terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act. The SCA has ordered that the accused may be tried before a different judge.

DAUGHTER PLEADS GUILTY TO THE MURDER OF HER FATHER

Polokwane – The Polokwane High Court has convicted Mologadi Magdeline Mehlape (28) after she pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of her father, Dr Malekutu Johannes Mehlape, who was a Circuit Manager at the Limpopo Department of Education. The incident occurred on 28 December 2023 at the deceased’s home in Mankweng Zone 1, outside Polokwane.

PASTOR SENTENCED TO FIFTEEN YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR ROBBERY

Molopo, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the 15-year direct imprisonment sentence handed down by the Molopo Regional Court to Petrus Phuthego Gasengake (48), who was convicted of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

SERIAL RAPIST CONVICTED IN EAST LONDON HIGH COURT

The High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division, East London Circuit Court has convicted Lwando Sfiso Phike (32) on eight counts of rape, four counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, and one count of attempted rape. The offences occurred between 2017 and 2022 and involved victims aged between 14 and 23.

HEFTY SENTENCES FOR MURDERERS

The Durban High Court has sentenced Siyabonga Ngubane to life imprisonment, and Sthembiso Khomo to 20 years imprisonment for the murder of Smanga Vusumuzi Khumalo in March 2024 in Umlazi, Q Section. Ngubane, who was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, was sentenced to an additional 18 years ' imprisonment.

DOUBLE LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE AND MURDER OF A MINOR

The Pietermaritzburg High Court (sitting in Port Shepstone) has sentenced Rogers Perumah (57) to two terms of life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in March 2024 in the Umkomaas area. Perumah and the child lived in the same area and were known to each other.

HORRIFIC MOB JUSTICE MURDERS RESULT IN TWO LIFE SENTENCES

Limpopo, South Africa – The Limpopo Polokwane High Court has convicted and sentenced Daniel Komana (57), from Ga-Mothapo village, to two life terms of imprisonment for two counts of murder. He was also sentenced to a fine of R8 000, or four years’ imprisonment, half of which is suspended for three years, for two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR RAPE AND HOUSEBREAKING

The Kuruman Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 26-year-old Tebelelo Motlhacwi, from Lexey village near Kuruman, to an effective 18 years of direct imprisonment following his conviction on charges of rape and housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. He was sentenced to 18 years for rape and 5 years for housebreaking, with the sentences to run concurrently.
