SKUKUZA POACHER SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS' DIRECT IMPRISONMENT

The Skukuza Regional Court has today sentenced Cornelius Collen Mofokeng (41), from Bhuga in Kabokweni, to ten years' direct imprisonment for poaching-related offences. Mofokeng was convicted on seven counts, namely: Trespassing, Possession of a firearm to commit a crime, Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number,, Possession of a firearm, Possession of ammunition, Possession of a dangerous weapon and Conspiracy to commit an offence

MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR BRUTAL RAPE IN POSTMASBURG

Postmasburg, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and 18-year direct imprisonment sentence handed down by the Postmasburg Regional Court to Velile Sannie (33) for the rape of an adult female.

This significant ruling stems from a violent incident on 22 May 2024, reinforcing the NPA’s unwavering commitment to combating gender-based violence (GBV) and ensuring justice for survivors.

MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE AND MURDER OF AN 8-YEAR-OLD GIRL

Pretoria, Gauteng – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Pretoria High Court, sitting in Palm Ridge, to Nkululeko Mtshali (20) for the rape and murder of 8-year-old Mbali Mahupela in Carletonville. The court also declared Mtshali unfit to possess a firearm, reinforcing the gravity of his crimes committed on 05 January 2023.

MULTIPLE LIFE AND 15 YEARS FOR MAN CONVICTED OF FAMILY’S MURDER

The Ladysmith Regional Court has sentenced Michael Buthelezi (48) to four terms of life imprisonment and 15 years imprisonment following his conviction on four counts of murder, arson, and two counts of defeating the ends of justice. The offences all relate to the incidents that occurred in October 2023 in the Bethany area of Bergville. Buthelezi was a councillor for the Democratic Alliance (DA) party at the time.
