NPA TO OPEN INQUEST INTO THE DEATHS OF THE PEBCO THREE

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development has approved the National Director of Public Prosecutions’ request for the holding of a joint inquest into the deaths of Messrs. Sipho Samuel Hashe, Qaqawuli Godolozi and Twasile Champion Galela, known as the PEBCO Three, to be held at the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court, Gqeberha. The NDPP’s request was based on the recommendations of the Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Barry Madolo.

MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS' DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR ASSAULT

Tlhabane, North West – The Tlhabane Regional Court has sentenced Andrew Modisane (29) to 10 years of direct imprisonment after convicting him of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, read with Section 51(2) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 105 of 1997.

15 YEARS’ DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR ONE OF CAIPHUS NYOKA KILLERS

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence of 15 years ' direct imprisonment handed down by the Pretoria High Court to a former Section Leader of the Reaction Unit 6 in Dunnottar, Johan Marais (66). This is after Marais pleaded guilty and was convicted of premeditated murder of Caiphus Nyoka.

25-YEAR SENTENCE FOR BRUTAL MURDER FOLLOWING JEALOUSY-FUELED ALTERCATION

Upington, Northern Cape – The Upington Regional Court has convicted and sentenced 29-year-old Johannes Gabaya from Augrabies to 25 years of direct imprisonment for the premeditated murder of Mathlole Bolokang. The murder occurred on 10 December 2023, just 11 days before the victim would have celebrated his 25th birthday.

TRADITIONAL NURSE SENTENCED TO DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR ASSAULTING AN INITIATE

Tsomo, Eastern Cape – The Tsomo Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a traditional nurse, Siyasanga Sifumba (30), to two years of direct imprisonment for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) on an initiate under his care during the 2024 summer initiation season. The court further declared Sifumba, who has a previous conviction for assault GBH, unfit to possess a firearm.

Molopo, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Molopo Regional Court to Mpho Ditaba (48) from Dithakong Village near Mahikeng. Ditaba was convicted of the premeditated murder of Motsamai Bosman (44).

25 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR SINDISO MAGAQA MURDER ACCUSED

Sibusiso Ncengwa (37) was sentenced to an effective 25 years imprisonment in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, today, following his conviction for the murder of former ANC Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Jethro Magaqa in July 2017, in uMzimkhulu as well as other charges.
