NORTHERN CAPE MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS OF DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING HIS SISTER

The Garies Regional Court has sentenced a 33-year-old man to 20 years of direct imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping his biological sister over four years. The victim was 19 years old when the abuse began and 24 by the time the matter was finalised. The siblings resided with their mother and uncle in Kharkams, near Kamieskroon, in the Namakwa region.

HIGH COURT DISMISSES URGENT BAIL APPLICATION BY ACCUSED IN THE SASSA FRAUD CASE

The urgent bail application by Phumelele Myeza, the ninth accused in the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) fraud case, has been dismissed by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg. The judgment comes after the defence approached the High Court for the accused to be released on bail, arguing that the postponement period set by the lower court was excessively long and therefore irregular.

LIFE SENTENCE FOR MURDER OF FOREIGN SHOPKEEPER

The High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division, Bhisho, sentenced Siyavuya “Luckiest” Thisani (32) and Aphelele “Blee” Ntsinga (28) to life imprisonment for the murder of an Ethiopian shopkeeper. The duo was further sentenced to 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, eight years for unlawful possession of firearm and three five years for unlawful possession of ammunition. The court ordered that the later sentences run concurrently with the life term for murder.

The Durban High Court has convicted Thobani Mhlongo (25) and Kwanele Makhaye (32) for the kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and murder of a 61-year-old man in May 2023 in the Seacow Lake area. Their co-accused, Siyabonga Freeman Mahaye (37), was convicted of kidnapping and robbery.

Cape Town, South Africa, The High Court of South Africa, Western Cape Division, has sentenced Ndumiso Lutshetu, Ashwin Kennedy, Bongani Mvamveki and Malibongwe Witbooi to two life sentences and 60 years direct imprisonment after the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that they planned and brutally murdered two law enforcement officers while in the line of duty.

RAPIST SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

Molopo, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life imprisonment sentence handed down by the Molopo Regional Court to Daniel Sekunelo Togole (57) for rape and additional twenty years for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently, and the accused has been added to the National Register for Sex Offenders. The convictions relate to an incident on the evening of 04 September 2012 in Mmabatho near Mafikeng.

SOSHANGUVE MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence of 15 years' direct imprisonment handed down by the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court to Tebogo Boikie Selowa (31), from Soshanguve, for the murder of Tshireltetso Mananmela (20). The court also ordered that he be declared unfit to possess a firearm.
