NPA MOURNS THE TRAGIC DEATH OF PROSECUTOR
It is with deep shock and profound sadness that the NPA confirms the untimely death of Mr. Elona Sombulula, a young District Court prosecutor, based in Ngcobo Magistrates’ Court. He was just 30 years old. He joined the NPA through the aspirant prosecutor program in 2022. He was acting as Regional Court prosecutor when he was shot on the evening of Tuesday, 29 April 2025.

TWO LIFE SENTENCES FOR FATHER WHO EXPLOITED HIS DAUGHTER IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OPERATION
The High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division in Gqeberha has sentenced a 56-year-old man to two life terms and an additional 3 713 years imprisonment following his conviction on more than 700 counts relating to rape, sexual assault, sexual grooming, human trafficking, possession, production and procuring of child pornography and exposing children and a person living with mental disability to pornography.

COURT CONVICTS CEDERBERG MUNICIPALITY DEPUTY MAYOR FOR FRAUD AND CONTRAVENTION OF MUNICIPAL FINANCE MANAGEMENT ACT
The Bellville Commercial Crimes Court has convicted the former deputy mayor of Cederberg Municipality, Benjamin Zass on charges of fraud and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act. The court will resume with his sentence proceedings on 29 May 2025.

EX-BOYFRIEND SENTENCED TO TWO LIFE TERMS PLUS 22 YEARS FOR GBV RELEATED CRIMES
The Gqeberha Regional Court has sentenced Cheslyn Matroos (41) to two life sentences and 22 additional years of imprisonment after his conviction on multiple charges, including rape, attempted rape, assault, and kidnapping. These offenses were committed against his former partner, with whom he had a domestic relationship.

MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDERING HIS MINOR CHILD
The Regional Court of North West sitting at the Atamelang Regional Court has sentenced Jacob Molebo (31) to life imprisonment for the murder of his three-month-old baby. The court further declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm.
