Lengthy Jail Term for Skukuza Poacher

The Skukuza Regional Court has sentenced Silas Mathebula (38), a Mozambican national, to 30 years of direct imprisonment for poaching-related offences committed in 2019. Mathebula was convicted of multiple charges, including trespassing, conspiracy to commit a crime, killing three rhinos, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a hunting rifle, and possession of ammunition.

Motswedi Village Bank Manager Sentenced for Theft

The Specialised Commercial Crime Court sitting in Mmabatho has sentenced Gaananngwe Shadrack Kgosiemang (58) to direct imprisonment for eleven counts of theft. The court ordered that all counts be taken as one for sentencing. Kgosiemang was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment, with five years suspended for five years, effectively serving five years behind bars.

Ex-Boyfriend Sentenced to 25-Years for Rape and Contravening a Protection Order

The Nxuba (previously Cradock) Regional Court has sentenced Mbuyiseli Phakela (45), to 20 years imprisonment for the rape of his ex-girlfriend and mother of his children. The court sentenced him to an additional five years for contravening a protection order granted to the victim, which prohibited him from accosting, following, or threatening the victim with violence or assault.
