MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE OF MENTALLY CHALLENGED WOMAN

Polokwane, Limpopo - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life imprisonment term handed down by the Mahwelereng Regional Court to a 27-year-old man, convicted and sentenced for a count of rape of a mentally challenged woman. The name of the accused is concealed to protect the identity of the victim, as they are known to each other.

ZAMBIAN MAN SENTENCED FOR CONTRAVENING OF THE CUSTOMS AND EXCISE ACT

Zeerust, North West – The Zeerust Magistrate`s Court has sentenced Masumba Mwanza (48), a Zambian national, to 24 months imprisonment or a fine of R20,000 for contravening the Customs and Excise Act. Additionally, he received a wholly suspended sentence of 12 months or a fine of R12,000, suspended for three years, on the condition that he is not convicted of contravening the provisions of the Customs and Excise Act 91 of 1964 during the suspension period.

The Skukuza Regional Court has today sentenced Cornelius Collen Mofokeng (41), from Bhuga in Kabokweni, to ten years' direct imprisonment for poaching-related offences. Mofokeng was convicted on seven counts, namely: Trespassing, Possession of a firearm to commit a crime, Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number,, Possession of a firearm, Possession of ammunition, Possession of a dangerous weapon and Conspiracy to commit an offence

MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR BRUTAL RAPE IN POSTMASBURG

Postmasburg, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and 18-year direct imprisonment sentence handed down by the Postmasburg Regional Court to Velile Sannie (33) for the rape of an adult female.

This significant ruling stems from a violent incident on 22 May 2024, reinforcing the NPA’s unwavering commitment to combating gender-based violence (GBV) and ensuring justice for survivors.
