NPA intensifies investigations on Haffajjee TRC case

The current leadership of the NPA remains committed to ensuring accountability for TRC crimes. The NPA has bolstered its capacity in this regard, and is working closely with the TRC Unit within the DPCI to intensify investigations into the death of the late Hoosen Haffajee. 

Ex-boyfriend sentenced to life imprisonment for rape

The Christiana Regional Court sentenced Lesego Andrew Maribe (36) to life imprisonment for raping his ex-girlfriend. The court further ordered that his name be registered in the sexual offender’s register. Maribe’s conviction emanates from an incident that occurred on 02 July 2021, wherein he went to his ex-girlfriend’s house in Christiana and demanded to be let in while kicking the door.

Man sentenced to ten years imprisonment for rape of a female friend

The Nelspruit Sexual Offences Court convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old man from Pienaar to 10 years imprisonment for the rape of his female friend (25). On 25 August 2019, the accused was travelling with a group of known friends including the victim and her boyfriend from Nelspruit to Pienaar. The victim requested the male friend to keep her personal belongings inside his bag for safekeeping.

The Assets Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority has been granted a Preservation Order in the Northern Cape High Court, against  Kenyaditswe McDonald Visser, MKV Investments (PTY) Ltd, Agnes Bogatsu and Stilofin (Pty) Ltd. The property belongs to the accused in the Department of Health Northern Cape PPE-related matter that is currently in Kimberley Magistrates Court.
