MASTERMIND OF ELDERLY LOVER'S MURDER JOINS ACCOMPLICES IN 25-YEAR JAIL TERMS

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence imposed by the High Court of South Africa, Eastern Cape Division, sitting in Gqeberha, against Estelle Le Grange (57), following her conviction on charges arising from the murder and robbery of her partner, 65-year-old Daniel de Jager. Her sentence follows the earlier convictions and sentencing of her co-accused, Anke-Mari Cilliers (39) and Lee-Roy Scholtz (38), who were sentenced after entering into plea and sentence agreements in terms of section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has secured a 10-year term of direct imprisonment against well-known Tlokoeng (Mount Fletcher) funeral director, Thanduxolo Poswa (56), for his leading role in the theft and laundering of a Road Accident Fund (RAF) payout intended for an 82-year-old woman.

ASSET FORFEITURE UNIT SECURES PRESERVATION ORDER IN ONLINE BANKING SCAM

he National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has successfully obtained an urgent preservation of property order in the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sitting in Middelburg in terms of Section 38 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), Act 121 of 1998. The order was granted on Friday, 12 June 2026.

The order emanates from a sophisticated online banking scam in which approximately R21.55 million was fraudulently diverted from the bank account of a Middelburg-based company, Jormid.

PENSIONER SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE OF HIS GREAT- GRANDCHILD

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the sentence of life imprisonment handed down on a 70-year-old pensioner by the KwaMhlanga Regional Court for the rape of his nine-year-old great-grandchild in August 2020. The incident happened at Kwa Mhlanga where the accused and the victim resided. The accused’s name is withheld from the statement to protect the victim from secondary victimisation.

DOUBLE MURDER ACCUSED TRADITIONAL LEADER DENIED BAIL

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has successfully opposed the bail application of Ngqeleni traditional leader, Totosi Ndamase (75) who is accused of the murder of two men for collecting wood from a forest that is in dispute between two villages. The accused also faces a count of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm as well as malicious injury to property.

MASTERMIND OF RHINO HORN TRAFFICKING SENTENCED TO A FINE OF R2 MILLION OR SERVE 4 YEARS IMPRISONMENT.

The State finalised its case against Dawie Groenewald and Tielman Erasmus during 17 to 19 June 2026 in the Polokwane High Court. Groenewald and Erasmus were represented by Mr. Thomas Grobler, assisted by Mr. Johann Winnertz. Groenewald is regarded as the mastermind behind a large-scale rhino horn trafficking enterprise finally entered into a plea agreement with the State in this matter ending the pending legal saga of more than a decade regarding allegations of trafficking rhino horns, racketeering and money laundering.

IDAC DISPELS REPORTS ON THE ARREST OF CRIME INTELLIGENCE HEAD

The NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) takes note of the media reports on the arrest of the Head of Crime Intelligence, General Dumisani Khumalo.

NPA RECEIVES INTERIM REPORT ON INVESTIGATIONS AND WITHDRAWS SUSPENSION LETTER OF ADV NTABA

On 02 June 2026, the Office for Ethics and Accountability (OEA) in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) submitted an interim report into the circumstances that led to the events that took place on 15 and 18 May 2026 regarding the matter of State versus Madoda Johannes Sibanyoni and Others. The interim report noted that there are outstanding investigations that still need to be conducted before a final report can be completed.
