ALLEGED CHILD-PORNOGRAPHY DISTRIBUTORS’ CASE TRANSFERRED TO THE HIGH COURT 

The case against alleged child-pornography distributors, Darren Wilken (34) and his partner Tiona Moodley (25), has been transferred to the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg. The accused briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court where State Advocate Colleen Ryan formally read the charges into the record and served the indictment.

Bergsig, Northern Cape – Royal Luthando Witbooi (20) has been convicted and sentenced to an effective 10 years’ direct imprisonment by the Springbok Regional Court following a plea and sentence agreement between the State and the accused.

REGIONAL COURT SENTENCES 19-YEAR-OLD TO 20 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR THE MURDER OF A 13-YEAR-OLD BOY 

Petrusville, Northern Cape – The Petrusville Regional Court, sitting in De Aar, has convicted and sentenced Chris Blaauw (19) to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of 13-year-old Deon Bezuidenhoudt. Blaauw pleaded guilty to the charge of murder, which occurred on 25 May 2025.

The Madadeni Regional Court has sentenced a 39-year-old man to a term of life imprisonment for the murder of a woman in the Osizweni area in April 2024. The accused and the deceased were involved in a relationship, and the accused was employed to look after a homestead in the area, so he and the deceased lived on the property together. Before the incident (the day before), the accused told his friend that the deceased had cheated on him and that she had used a love potion on him.

MOTHER SENTENCED FOR MURDER OF NEWBORN 

The Mtubatuba Regional Court has sentenced a 21-year-old woman to 12 years direct imprisonment following her conviction for the murder of her newborn baby. The incident took place in August 2024 in the Hluhluwe area. In sentencing the woman, the court deviated from the minimum sentence of life imprisonment, taking into consideration the age of the accused, and the fact that she has a minor child.

UNCLE GETS 10 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR ASSAULT GBH 

The Mtubatuba Regional Court has sentenced a 51-year-old man to 10 years imprisonment for the assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (Assault GBH) of his 13-year-old niece in April 2025. The accused and the complainant lived in the same homestead, and on the day of the incident, the accused arrived home and found his sister (the complainant’s mother) seated with her three children. Brandishing a bush knife, he approached his sister, swore at her, and threatened to kill her.

GANG RAPISTS SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR 2010 ATTACK 

East London, Eastern Cape — While the country was celebrating the 2010 FIFA World Cup, women in Engcobo Village, Stutterheim, endured a horrific attack in their homes. More than 15 years later, the East London Regional Court has sentenced three of the perpetrators, Sivuyile Mbondela (41), Sisanele Hletyiwe (36) and Thanduxolo Kedama (47) to life imprisonment for gang rape. Their accomplice, Sandile Mbondela, died before the trial commenced.
