FORMER SECURITY OFFICER SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS' DIRECT IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER

Middelburg, Mpumalanga – The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sitting in Middelburg has convicted and sentenced former security officer, Nqubeko Brian Mchunu (43), to 25 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of Tshepo Maseko (33), an employee of the Steve Tshwete Municipality. The accused was also convicted on three counts of attempted murder.

The Durban High Court has sentenced Sifundo Bongani Bhengu (39) and Bongani Freedom Jali (24) to life imprisonment for the murder of a 16-year-old girl in Umlazi Y-Section in May 2024. The pair were sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment and 15 years' imprisonment respectively for the related robbery with aggravating circumstances. The deceased, Wandile Aphiwe Ngcobo, lived together with her father and sibling in Umlazi, and Bhengu lived across the street from them.

ZIMBABWEAN NATIONAL SENTENCED FOR KILLING THREE YOUTHS IN FATAL ACCIDENT

Kimberley, Northern Cape – The Kimberley Regional Court has sentenced Collin Mhlanga (29), a Zimbabwean national, to 13 years of direct imprisonment following his conviction on three counts of culpable homicide, failure to render assistance at the scene of an accident, and contravention of the Immigration Act.

The sentencing follows a horrific incident that claimed the lives of Omphile Jonas (16), Mi-Kayla Booysen (23), and Wessem Matthews (20).

Mafikeng, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the hefty sentence handed down to Shakandinnyi Ndivhoswami Tshiovhe (34) by the North West High Court. Tshiovhe was convicted on several serious charges, including murder, two counts of attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

NPA TO OPEN INQUEST INTO THE DEATHS OF THE PEBCO THREE

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development has approved the National Director of Public Prosecutions’ request for the holding of a joint inquest into the deaths of Messrs. Sipho Samuel Hashe, Qaqawuli Godolozi and Twasile Champion Galela, known as the PEBCO Three, to be held at the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court, Gqeberha. The NDPP’s request was based on the recommendations of the Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Barry Madolo.
