SKUKUZA POACHER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS’ DIRECT IMPRISONMENT 

The Skukuza Regional Court has today sentenced Bethuel Baloyi (28) to 16 years’ direct imprisonment for a series of poaching-related offences committed in 2020. He was convicted on multiple counts, including trespassing, killing two rhinos, possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a firearm to commit an offence, possession of live ammunition, conspiracy to commit an offence, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

MEN GET LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR KILLING PASTOR 

The Ngwelezane Regional Court has sentenced two men: Phakamani Eugene Khumalo (33) and Sandile Mthokozisi Mabuyakhulu (33) to life and 11 years and 6 months imprisonment for the murder of a pastor in June 2023 in the Enseleni area. The deceased, John Funa Myaka, was a pastor, a member of African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), and a ward councillor at the time of his death.

Springbok, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence imposed by the Springbok Regional Court on Conray Cloete (26), who received seven (7) years’ direct imprisonment for tampering with essential infrastructure. The matter was successfully prosecuted by Regional Court Prosecutor Basil Kock.

Mothibistad, Northern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and sentencing of Nonie Michael Brown (38) and Boikanyo Bles (35) by the Mothibistad Regional Court for the murder of Itumeleng Mabihi. The two were charged with one count of murder, read with Section 51(1) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 105 of 1997, based on common purpose, which exposed them to the possibility of life imprisonment.

The Esikhawini Regional Court has sentenced Samukelo Tyson Dumisa (37) to two terms of life imprisonment and 25 years imprisonment for the kidnappings, robbery, murder, and attempted murder he committed in the Port Dunford area in November 2023.

The Scottburgh Regional Court has sentenced a 58-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor boy (on diverse occasions) between the years 2021 and 2022. The accused and the complainant were well known to each other as they were neighbours. The complainant was 12 years old when the offences began.

ALLEGED CHILD-PORNOGRAPHY DISTRIBUTORS’ CASE TRANSFERRED TO THE HIGH COURT 

The case against alleged child-pornography distributors, Darren Wilken (34) and his partner Tiona Moodley (25), has been transferred to the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg. The accused briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court where State Advocate Colleen Ryan formally read the charges into the record and served the indictment.
