NPA SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSES BAIL IN PROTECTED PLANT THEFT CASE
Kariega, Eastern Cape – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has successfully opposed the bail application of Zimbabwean national, Ngqabutho Ngulube (34), who faces charges related to the illegal removal of protected plant species, specifically cycads of the Encephalartos genus. Ngulube is currently in the country unlawfully, as his visa has expired.

TWO MEN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RUSTENBURG COFFEE SHOP MURDER
Mogwase, North West – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life sentences handed down to Sibongiseni Ngubane (33) and Thabani Lethukuthula Gwala (30) by the North West High Court sitting in Mogwase. The two men were convicted of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm following the brutal killing of Rustenburg businessman Ben Gumbi (50) in August 2023.

STATE ASKS COURT TO IMPOSE LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN A FEMICIDE CASE IN GEORGE
George, South Africa; the High Court of South Africa, Western Cape Division, sitting at the Eastern Circuit Local Division in George, will sentence Johan Miana following his plea of guilty for the murder of his girlfriend, Maria Karen Ambraal.

CLOSING ARGUMENTS FOR INKOSI ALBERT LUTHULI INQUEST
The inquest into the death of Inkosi Albert John Mvumbi Luthuli returns to the Pietermaritzburg High Court on 13 October 2025, for the state's closing arguments. On 14 April 2025, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), through the Director of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal, Adv. Elaine Harrison, reopened the inquest.

LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING A 9-YEAR-OLD
The Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Hendrick Banda (39) to life imprisonment for the repeated rape of a 9-year-old girl in 2020. The heinous crimes took place at Durban Deep, where Banda, who is a family friend and tavern owner, exploited his relationship with the victim’s mother, who struggled with alcohol abuse. The incident came to light when an elder overheard the 9-year-old victim disclosing the assaults while playing with friends.
