TWO MEN SENTENCED FOR ROBBERY COMMITTED DURING COVID-19 LOCKDOWN
Johannesburg – The Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court has sentenced two men, Innocent Phiri (54) and Blessed Ncube (36), to 15 years’ imprisonment each for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The offence was committed in Atterberry, Pretoria, in May 2021 during the national COVID-19 lockdown.

YOUTH SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR ATTEMPTING TO KILL GRANNY
Willowvale – The Willowvale Regional Court has sentenced 32-year-old Nkosithandile Mtlaka to 15 years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder of 84-year-old Noqeshwa Dolisi. The elderly woman was brutally attacked while sleeping alone in her home in the Mandlutsha area of Willowvale during the early hours of 30 August 2025.

MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING MINORS
Hanover, Northern Cape – The Hanover Regional Court has sentenced William Matheuws (27) to life imprisonment plus ten years for the rape and attempted rape of two minors. The incident occurred on 12 August 2023 when the accused was with both victims, who were only five years old at the time. A child from the neighbourhood alerted an elderly community member to check on what the accused was doing to the two minors.

IDAC FORMALLY ADDS DR GIGABA AS THE FIFTH ACCUSED IN A CORRUPTION CASE AGAINST FORMER TRANSNET EXECUTIVES
The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) formally added Dr Malusi Gigaba as the fifth accused in a corruption case involving former Transnet executives, at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crime Court today, 18 November 2025. The matter was postponed to 30 January 2026 for the disclosure of the docket, as well as the provision of an indictment, and a date for the transfer of the case to the high court.

LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR A RAPIST COUSIN
The Esikhawini Regional Court has sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a 5-year-old girl in the Mpembeni area in September 2023. The accused and the complainant were known to each other as they were cousins and neighbours.
