NPA WELCOMES FORFEITURE OF DANIEL HUGO SMIT’S VEHICLE TO THE STATE 

Cape Town, South Africa, The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the forfeiture to the State of Daniel Hugo Smit’s vehicle, which he used to pursue Jerobijn Van Wyk, knock him over and kidnap him before brutally murdering him. The order was granted following the Asset Forfeiture Unit’s (AFU) decision to apply for a preservation and a forfeiture order as it believed the vehicle was an instrumentality of the offences he was convicted of and sentenced on 05 November 2024.

SETH NTHAI PLEADS GUILTY AND IS SENTENCED FOR SOLICITING BRIBE 

Johannesburg – Senior Counsel, Seth Nthai, has been convicted and sentenced by the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division in Johannesburg, after pleading guilty to corruption charges. Nthai admitted to soliciting a R5 million bribe from Italian businessman Mario Marcenaro during a meeting in Sandton on 10 October 2009. The bribe was intended to influence the outcome of the Piero Foresti and others vs the Government of the Republic of South Africa international arbitration case.

MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR RAPE OF MINOR WITH SPECIAL NEEDS 

Pretoria, Gauteng – The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Thabo Xolani Masoka (32) to life imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome. Masoka resided in the same block of flats as the victim and her mother.

NEIGHBOR SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPE OF A MINOR

Boschfontein, Mpumalanga – The Boschfontein Regional Court has convicted and sentenced Lazarus Manzini (46) to life imprisonment for raping a 9-year-old girl. The victim was living with her grandmother in Boschfontein at the time of the incident.

LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING A MINOR AT A WEDDING CEREMONY

Polokwane, Limpopo – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the life imprisonment sentence imposed by the Limpopo Polokwane High Court on a 45-year-old man from Dennilton for raping a nine-year-old girl. To protect the victim’s identity, the accused’s name is withheld. The accused pleaded not guilty.

TRIO SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR DOUBLE MURDER 

The Mpumalanga Division of the High Court has sentenced Mpilo Clinton Twala (35), Advice Philimon Lubisi (39), and Joshua Mkhonto (42) to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of Isaac Mdaka and Xoli Mathebula in 2020. The trio was convicted on two counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping, and assault, relating to events that occurred in Xhimungwe, District of Bushbuckridge.

TRIO SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS 71 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR BRUTAL FARM ATTACK

Evander, Mpumalanga – The Evander Regional Court has sentenced Thubelihle Ndwandwe (29), Siyabonga Ndwandwe (29), and Muzikayifane Ndwandwe (43) to life imprisonment plus an additional 71 years each for a violent farm attack that took place in Leslie, Mpumalanga, on 07 September 2022.
