Two suspects appear before court on fraud charges valued at over R1,7 million

The Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court postponed the case against Obakeng Glen Mokgale (39) and Orebotse James Tlale (40), to 15 August 2023 for the arrest of the remaining suspects before the matter is transferred to the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for trial. The court granted each R30 000 bail and they were warned not to interfere with the state’s witnesses and to avail themselves for the next court sitting.

Court rules that anti-apartheid activist, Moabi Dipale did not hang himself

The reopened inquest hearing into former anti-apartheid activist, Ernest Moabi Dipale’s death has been finalised in the High Court of South Africa Gauteng Local Division, Johannesburg with Judge Motsamai Makume finding that Dipale’s death was brought about by the actions of the members of the security branch police stationed at John Voster Square.

Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing pregnant wife

The Taung Regional Court sentenced Thapelo Edwin Mojaki (41), to life imprisonment for murdering his pregnant wife, Matshidiso Catherine Mojaki (36). He pleaded guilty to the offence.

Case against alleged serial rapist set for trial

The High Court of South Africa; North West Division, sitting at the Klerksdorp Regional Court, postponed the case against Johannes Ontsheketse Tshabile (43), to 16 October 2023 for trial. Tshabile is facing 22 charges of rape, 9 of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 5 of attempted murder, 17 of assault, 7 of attempted robbery and 5 of theft.

Councilor charged with statutory rape abandons bail

The Orkney Magistrates’ Court postponed the case against Tebogo Sepale (43), a Councillor at the Matlosana Local Municipality to 24 August 2023 for further investigations. He was due to register a formal bail application but opted to abandon it, following consultations with his attorney. The state is now awaiting the conclusion of investigations to possibly add more charges against the accused in preparation for trial.
