Thuthuzela Care Centres are one-stop facilities based at hospitals and clinics across the country. They were introduced in 1999 by the NPA. The Thuthuzela-model uses a victim-centric approach and is regarded as an international best practice model in dealing with gender-based violence matters. It is aimed at minimising secondary victimisation of the victims entering the system, expediting finalisation of cases, and improving the conviction rate through prosecutor-guided investigation (PGI) and stakeholder engagement
