MAN APPEARS IN COURT FOR THE ALLEGED MURDER OF 22-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN ROCKVILLE

Thirty-one-year-old Sizwe Nkululeko Yende appeared before the Protea Magistrates’ Court in connection with the alleged murder of 22-year-old Botshelo Mabua in Rockville, Soweto.

Yende faces a charge of murder following Mabua's death at a residence on 25 September 2026.

The State alleges that, during the early hours of the morning, the accused and the deceased became involved in a verbal altercation which escalated into violence. It is alleged that Yende pushed the deceased, causing her to strike her head against a corner. During the ensuing struggle, he allegedly strangled her, resulting in her death.

The deceased was later found lying on the floor inside the residence and was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Following investigations, Yende was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The matter was postponed to 02 October 2026 for a formal bail application. The accused remains in custody pending further court proceedings.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) remains steadfast in its commitment to combating gender-based violence and ensuring that perpetrators of crimes against women are held accountable. The NPA will continue to prosecute this matter vigorously and without fear, favour, or prejudice in pursuit of justice for the victim and her loved ones.
