YOUNGER BROTHER GETS LIFE TERM FOR MURDER OF OLDER BROTHER
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has ensured that Anele Jika (31) is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 33-year-old brother, Vuyo Jika. The incident occurred on 20 October 2024 at Ndingishe locality, Rooiwal, following a domestic dispute at the family homestead. Evidence presented before the court revealed that an argument arose between the brothers, resulting in the younger brother chasing away another older sibling from the homestead. The deceased, together with his wife and another brother, later left the residence after the dispute remained unresolved.
The accused followed the group and launched a brutal attack on the deceased, stabbing him multiple times in the back with a sharp instrument, resulting in fatal wounds. The deceased sustained four serious stab wounds and succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital. After the incident, the accused fled the scene but later handed himself over to the police. He remained in custody after bail was denied. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions for the Eastern Cape Division, Advocate Samkelo Mtwana, commended the successful outcome of the case, expressing appreciation to the prosecution team and law enforcement. “The NPA extends its sincere appreciation to Prosecutor Mr Magibile for his dedicated and thorough presentation of the State’s case, and to Investigating Officer Sgt Vusumzi Thabiso Patrick Moahloli of Palmietfontein Detectives for the diligent investigation that ensured a strong evidential foundation. This outcome reflects effective collaboration between prosecution and police in securing justice for victims of violent crime,” the Acting DPP said.
The NPA reiterates its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes, particularly those involving family members, are held accountable and that justice is served for victims and their families.
