FATHER SENTENCED FOR MURDER OF TWO-YEAR-OLD CHILD

POLOKWANE: The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the sentencing of 24-year-old Thabang Hendrick Letsebe from Shongoane village, Villa Nora, outside Lephalale, for the murder of his two-year-old biological son. On 06 October 2024, police responded to a call from a community member in Shongoane village. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of a two-year-old child at the residence. The accused, who is the child’s father, was found at the scene and was immediately arrested and charged with murder.

On 05 May 2026, the Polokwane Division of the High Court sentenced Letsebe to 20 years’ direct imprisonment. The sentence follows a Section 105A plea and sentencing agreement entered between the State and the accused.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in Limpopo, Advocate Ivy Thenga, commended the investigator and prosecutor for their efforts in securing the conviction and sentence. She noted that the crime has left the community deeply affected.

“The National Prosecuting Authority remains steadfast in prioritising crimes against vulnerable children and will continue to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable,” she said.
