MURDERER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT
Ficksburg, Free State – The Ficksburg Regional Court has convicted and sentenced Mohau Nelson Mabuya (38) to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of Motlalepula Mofokeng (43).On 01 September 2024, an argument broke out between Mabuya and Mofokeng. During the altercation, the accused produced a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest before fleeing the scene. Members of the community immediately pursued and apprehended him before handing him over to the police. Following a lengthy trial, the court found Mabuya guilty of murder. The case was prosecuted by Vusi Nhlapo on behalf of the State.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Free State welcomes this conviction and sentence, which underscores the seriousness with which the justice system treats violent crimes. The NPA commends the swift response of the community in ensuring that the perpetrator was handed over to the police and not subjected to mob justice.
