THIRD ACCUSED ADDED IN REIGER PARK KILLING OF TWO POLICE OFFICERS AND TWO CIVILIANS

Boksburg, Gauteng – Twenty-seven-year-old Elvino Crawford has been added as the third accused in the case relating to the fatal shooting of two South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit officers and two civilians in Reiger Park, Boksburg.

Crawford made his first appearance in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court following his arrest at his place of residence on 19 August 2026. His arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation arising from further police investigations that linked him to the matter.

He joins Jamal Meyer (24) and Regan Cheslyn Collins (23), who have already been charged in connection with the fatal shooting.

Crawford faces four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, and charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is also charged as an accessory after the fact.

The charges stem from a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Reiger Park, Boksburg, on 7 August 2026. Four people lost their lives in the incident, namely Roleen Lessing, Jayden Magerman, Constable Tomatsane and Constable Sibeko.

It is alleged that the two SAPS Anti-Gang Unit officers were responding to reports of gunfire in the area when they came under attack and were fatally shot. All three accused are expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on 25 August 2026 for a formal bail application.

The NPA will continue to work closely with the investigating team to ensure that the matter is properly prosecuted and that all relevant evidence is placed before the court.

The State will oppose bail in accordance with the law and the circumstances of the case.
