NPA READY TO PROCEED WITH ALLEGED UK FUGITIVE CASE, DEFENCE REQUESTS MORE TIME

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is ready to proceed with both matters against alleged United Kingdom fugitive, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma (46), following the finalisation of the outstanding documentation and reports.

Tshuma appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court in two separate matters. He appeared in extradition proceedings following a request by the United Kingdom authorities and in a separate matter in which he faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Both matters were postponed to 08 and 10 September 2026, respectively, to allow the defence further time to consult with Tshuma.

The State has received all the required documentation from the United Kingdom authorities in support of the extradition proceedings. The ballistic report relating to the firearm and ammunition has also been finalised. The State has furnished the defence with all relevant documentation.

Tshuma was arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg, on 10 July 2026, after the South African Police Service (SAPS), through INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Pretoria, received a request from the United Kingdom authorities to trace and apprehend him following the issuing of a warrant of arrest by the Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

According to the extradition request, Tshuma is wanted in the United Kingdom on three counts of murder. It is alleged that, in early July 2026, in Bedford, Bedfordshire, he murdered his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, and their two children, Natalie Tshuma and Nala Tshuma.

Tshuma initially entered South Africa legally through OR Tambo International Airport on 05 July 2026. His immigration status has subsequently changed as a result of his fugitive status. In terms of the Immigration Act, he is regarded as both a prohibited and undesirable person and is therefore considered to be in the Republic illegally.

The NPA will continue to prosecute the matters in accordance with the law and ensure that the proceedings are dealt with without unnecessary delays.
