MUGABE AND CO-ACCUSED PLEAD GUILTY

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction of Bellermine Chatunga Mugabe (28) and his co-accused, Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze (33), in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. The matter has been postponed to 24 April 2026 for sentencing proceedings.

The convictions follow guilty pleas by both accused to the charges against them. Mugabe pleaded guilty to contravening the Immigration Act and pointing of firearm . Matonhodze pleaded guilty to attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, defeating the ends of justice, and contravening the Immigration Act.

The charges stem from an incident on 19 February 2026 at Mugabe’s residence in Hyde Park, where an altercation occurred between the accused and a security guard. During the incident, the guard was assaulted and, while attempting to flee, was shot in the back and collapsed outside the gate. A neighbouring security guard discovered him and alerted the police.

The NPA remains committed to prosecuting violent crime to uphold the rule of law, protect communities, and ensure justice for victims.
