MP ADAMS IN COURT ON FRAUD AND DEFEATING CHARGES
Fadiel Adams (49) appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court today on 3 counts of Fraud and 2 counts of Defeating the Administration of Justice. Adams is a member of the National Assembly in Parliament, representing the National Coloured Congress (NCC).
The state is alleging that on 02 November 2024 and 24 January 2025, the accused visited Westville Prison/ Correctional Centre and conducted two separate interviews with two awaiting trial inmates. These inmates were in custody for two separate matters: one being the Sindiso Magaqa murder and the other inmate was in custody for a partly heard matter. The state is alleging that the accused recorded the interviews.
In doing so, the accused allegedly misrepresented to the various authorities including the SAPS, eThekwini Metro Police and Officials at the Westville Prison/Correctional Centre that he was on official duty. Given this impression, authorities then arranged an official escort for him from King Shaka International Airport to the Westville Correctional Centre and back. Adams also allegedly engaged with the inmates without authorisation from the investigating team, nor the legal representatives of the inmates. Further, the state alleges that he was not officially mandated by Parliament to conduct these visits.
During today's court appearance, the state advised its opposition to bail. The matter was postponed to 13 May 2026 for a bail application.
Regarding the Sindiso Magaqa murder matter, the case against the three accused, namely Sbonelo Myeza, Mbulelo Mpofana and Zweliphansi Stanley Skhosana return to the Pietermaritzburg High Court on 18 May 2026 for trial. Myeza and Mpofana will remain out on bail while Skhosana is in custody following an unsuccessful bail application.
