MAGAQA MURDER ACCUSED BACK IN COURT
Mbulelo Mpofana, Sbonelo Myeza and Zweliphansi Stanley Skhosana appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court today. They are charged in connection with the murder of former ANC Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Jethro Magaqa. Magaqa was killed in July 2017 in Mzimkhulu.
On their previous high court appearance (on 06 October 2025), the state advised the court that it would bring an application in terms of Section 73 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act with regards to the legal team representing Accused 2, Myeza. This legal team had previously represented another accused in this matter, namely Sibusiso Ncengwa. Ncengwa made Section 220 admissions (in this matter) in July this year. He was subsequently sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment and will now testify as a state witness.
The state was of the view that the participation of this legal team in this matter on Myeza's behalf is a conflict of interest, which may result in an irregularity. Subsequent to the previous appearance, the legal team filed a notice of withdrawal and has since withdrawn as Myeza's legal representatives. Today, the case was adjourned to 20 November 2025, to allow Myeza to enlist the services of a new legal representative.
