Gang Members Jailed For Life for Murder of Fellow Gang Member

The George Regional Court sentenced Johannes Boesak, Ryno Joubert, Hayworth Botha and Daniel Bruiners who are members of the 28s prison gang to life imprisonment after they murdered another 28s prison gang member.

On 31 October 2017, Boesak and the Graeme Fillies had an altercation. Boesak lost a finger after Fillies hacked it off with a panga. He went to hospital and went to look for Fillies for revenge after he was discharged.

Boesak and his friends found him on 01 November 2017. They attacked him with a golf stick, panga and hockey stick. The prosecutor successfully argued that the accused planned the murder and acted in furtherance of a common purpose. The state asked for life imprisonment to be handed down to all the accused while the defence argued for a sentence ranging between 15 years and 18 years imprisonment.

The court disagreed and handed down the prescribed minimum sentence of life imprisonment. It further declared all the accused unfit to possess a firearm.
