Food Counterfeit Accused Trial To Start In April

The trial of Chen Wenhei who is facing a charge of contraventions of Counterfeiting Goods Act 37 of 1997, will commence in the Warrenton Regional Court on 14 April 2022. The accused was arrested on 10 July 2018, by members of the South African Police Service K9-Unit, while on patrol, police received information that the accused was running a counterfeit syndicate.

The police followed up on the intelligence report and visited the warehouse where alleged transgressions were happening. The accused was found with counterfeit household foods, and other consumables, amounting to more than R26 million.  

Some of the goods that the police found at the warehouse, were well-known brand spices, baking powder, instant yeast, sanitary towels, as well as shoe polish. The Police also confiscated the machinery used for the alleged manufacturing and packaging of these goods, during their operation.
