ASSAULT CASE FINALISED 

The case of S vs Mduduzi Myeza was finalised yesterday, in the Estcourt Magistrates' Court. Myeza is the mayor of Estcourt, and he was charged with one count of assault. It was alleged that he assaulted the complainant during a work-related incident. The matter was finalised using an Alternative Dispute Resolution Method (ADRM). 

An ADR takes place when an accused and a complainant decide to finalise a matter outside of the formal court process. This is part of the Restorative Justice process where the parties conclude an informal mediation agreement. In this matter, the accused and the complainant entered an informal mediation agreement. 

The parties did so voluntarily and there was proper monitoring and oversight of the process by a Senior Public Prosecutor from outside the Estcourt Magistrate Court, and the Acting Chief Public Prosecutor. The accused apologised to the complainant and the complainant accepted the apology, and the matter was finalised.
