56-YEAR OLD APPEARS IN COURT FOR ALLEGED RAPE OF A 12-YEAR OLD GIRL

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) remains steadfast in its commitment to combating gender-based violence and sexual offences against vulnerable members of society, particularly children. The NPA continues to treat all cases of sexual violence with the utmost seriousness, aggressively prosecuting perpetrators to uphold the constitutional rights to dignity, privacy, and security of victims.

In line with this mandate, a 56-year-old man appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on charges of rape of a 12-year-old girl in Dobsonville, Soweto.

The accused’s name is withheld to protect the identity of the minor victim and to prevent secondary victimisation. The alleged incident occurred on 03 April 2026 at the accused’s house. He was arrested on 04 April 2026 and formally charged with rape. The case was postponed to 22 April 2026 for further bail information, and the accused has been remanded in custody.

The NPA emphasises that all cases of sexual violence infringe on the rights to dignity and privacy of victims as enshrined in the Constitution, and it will continue to prosecute such matters vigorously.
