THE R228 MILLION MEDICARE 24 TSHWANE DISTRICT CORRUPTION CASE AGAINST MATLALA AND OTHERS AWAITS REVIEW PANEL’S DECISION

The Pretoria Regional Court postponed the case against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 15 others to 17 November 2026, for the Review Panel to complete its assessment on the validity of the charges against the accused and for the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) to issue an instruction on the way forward.

This forms part of the IDAC Reset Project which includes the review of all cases by a Review Panel comprised of senior prosecutors from the NPA as well as senior attorneys from the SIU. This process is undertaken to ensure that all prescripts of the law were followed and to assess if the evidence contained meet the minimum threshold for convictions.

The accused face charges of corruption arising from the alleged irregular awarding of a contract valued at approximately R228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company owned by Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The National Prosecuting Authority, through IDAC, is committed in ensuring that all prescripts of the law are adhered to when bringing perpetrators of corruption to book.
