Man Accused Of Raping A 14-Year-Old Girl Appears In Court
The Springbok District Court has postponed the case of rape against Majid-Ali Jabbar(25), after the accused was arrested and charged with raping a 14-year-old girl, in the town of Springbok in the Northern Cape. The case was postponed for an Urdu Interpreter (the National Language of Pakistan), as well as to allow the accused to consult with his attorney for a possible bail application.
It is alleged that on 07 August, the 14-year-old victim went to the accused tuckshop. The accused called the victim to a room, at the back of the tuckshop to come and fetch Tupperware. She went with him, stood at the door, and when she tried to take the Tupperware, the accused grabbed her by the arm, threw her on the floor, and raped her. After raping the victim, the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what happened. She ran home and told her grandmother what happened, and the matter was reported to the police.
The accused is remanded in custody, until his next appearance on 19 August 2022, where he is expected to formally make his intention to apply for bail.
Investigations led by the Police are continuing.
