Court Denies Bail To Department Of Education Official Accused Of Raping A Minor
John Jim Crew (56), from Concordia in the Northern Cape, has been denied bail by the Springbok Magistrates’ Court, on a charge of rape. The accused is an official in the Northern Cape Department of Education and is accused of having raped a 09-year-old girl. It is alleged that on 06 May 2022, the accused raped the minor and the incident was reported to the police by the mother.
Through diligent and progressive work done by the Investigating Officer, the accused was arrested on 11 May 2022 and was remanded in custody until the commencement of his bail hearing.
During his protracted bail application, the accused fired his legal representative and had to appoint a new legal counsel to handle his matter. The Prosecution opposed the bail application, considering the seriousness of the charge against the accused. The accused will be remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 04 August 2022, while investigations led by the SAPS are continuing.
