Case Delayed Due To Defence Attorney’s Absence In Court
A 42-year-old man, Modirelwa Maxwell Mokoana, and a 40-year-old sergeant Thabo Letudi Mokoana, of Benoni police station, appeared in Nebo Magistrates’ Court for a formal bail application, on charges of kidnapping, murder and defeating the ends of justice. The incident took place on 09 May 2022, in Kgaphamadi village Limpopo. The accused were arrested on 31 June 2022.
It is alleged that the deceased Refiloe Malope, a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) community, was seen chased by the accused’s motor vehicle, and she was screaming for help, apprehended and shoved into the boot of the car. The deceased was later found in a discontinued ventilation mine shaft in Benoni, Gauteng.
The matter is postponed to 28 July 2022, for a further bail hearing, and the defence lawyer was not in court. The accused will remain in custody until the next court appearance.
