Mogalakwena Corruption Case Set For Pre-Trial.

William Lesiba Mokhonwana, and 28 others including their companies, appeared in Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court. The accused are facing one hundred and twenty-one (121) counts of corruption, three of money laundering and conspiracy to commit corruption. The court handed down the ruling on the application brought by the defence lawyers, to have the matter struck off the roll, sighting unreasonable delay caused by the state and some of the defence lawyers, alleged that they didn’t receive the contents of the docket, while the state has submitted such contents electronically to all lawyers. However, some defence lawyers confirmed that they have received the contents of the dockets from prosecutions.

The presiding officer, Matlaba Kganyago, handed down the ruling and said that “no false can be made against the doorsteps of the prosecutions, as they have furnished the contents of the docket to legal representatives of the accused”. The court then dismissed the application and ordered that the matter be postponed to 07 October 2022, for pre-trial.  Amongst the accused who are appearing, are the Former Mayor of Mogalakwena Municipality, Andrina Matsemela, Nkadi Mabusela, sister to the former mayor, Jabu Mashamaite and Tolly Mashamaite.

It is alleged that the accused received gratification from service providers, for services not rendered. The municipal lost over R15 million, due to their corrupt activities. Jabulane Mashamaite has a pending murder case in Mokopane Magistrates’ Court, where two ANC councillors were shot and killed.
