Bail Denied Against Groblersdal Man
The Groblersdal Magistrates'Court denied bail to Corrie Pretorious (50), for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, on a 16-year-old boy and pointing of a firearm. This follows an alleged incident that took place in Groblersdal Game Shopping Centre Mall, on 15 June 2022. The video of the incident was circulating on social media, where Corrie was shown assaulting, swearing and pointing a firearm at the boy.
The state opposed the bail application, stating that if Corrie could be released on bail, it would not only endanger his life but will disrupt public order. It was evident in court that his wife opened a case of intimidation after the community has threatened the accused family. Corrie submitted an affidavit that he has been assaulted while he was in custody and his life was in danger in the correctional service. The court agreed with the state that the applicant will not be safe in the community and that public order will be disrupted.
The matter is postponed to 06 September 2022, for further investigations. The accused remains in custody.
