New Trial Date To Be Set For Men Accused Of Sexually Assaulting A Minor

The trial of four men accused of sexually assaulting a then 07-year-old child in June 2020, which was to commence in the Kimberley Sexual Offences Court has been delayed by the Magistrates’ Court seating in Kimberley.

The four accused, who include the stepfather of the victim were arrested at a farm near Kimberley after a case was opened with the police. Three of the accused, who are family members, were arrested immediately after the case was opened. The fourth suspect was arrested after an intense year-long search that was undertaken by the South African Police Service Tracing Team.

Since they were detained, the accused have been incarcerated as the prosecutor successfully opposed their bail applications. The accused will be back in court on 09 March 2022, to afford the Magistrate to set a new trial date.
