The Executive Mayor Appears In Court On Charge Of Fraud

The case of fraud against Marius Louw, who at the time of the commissioning of the offence, was the Executive Mayor of Z.F Mcgawu District Municipality, and his wife Gertrude Louw, has been adjourned to 30 August 2022, by the Upington District Court. The husband and wife, are facing two charges of fraud emanating from purchasing two vehicles, through fraudulent means by utilising fictitious documents. It is alleged that the couple approached a Wesbank with fake documents with an intention to purchase two motor vehicles.

Their application was approved and they managed two purchased a VW Golf VII, with a total value of more than R900 000 as well as a Ford Ranger, with a total value of more than R700 000. It was later established that the accused used fictitious documents, to obtain approval to purchase the two vehicles. A case was later opened, and the accused were arrested by the Specialised Unit of the Police, and the vehicles were repossessed by the Bank.

The accused were both granted bail of R5000 rands each, as investigations are ongoing. The case will be back in court on 30 August 2022, the accused legal representation has notified the court, that they wish to make representations to the Director of Public Prosecution.
