Court Denies Bail To Man Accused Of Raping A Minor

The Jan Kempsdorp Magistrates’ Court has denied bail, to Aobakwe Johnny, who is facing a charge of rape. The 26-year-old suspect is accused of having raped a 08-year-old girl, in the town of Jan Kempsdorp which is 100kms from the City of Kimberley. It is alleged that on 01 March 2022, the accused raped the minor near her home in Masakeng.

The matter was reported to the Police, and investigations were launched. Through intelligence-led intensive investigations, the suspect was arrested on 10 March 2022, and he made his first appearance on 11 March 2022.

During his prolonged bail application, the accused fired his legal representative, as he indicated that he was not happy with their services. His matter had to be postponed numerous times, as the accused had to be afforded ample time, to prepare for his bail application.

Looking at the severity and seriousness of the charge against the accused in this  Schedule six matter, The Prosecution opposed his bail application, as it was in the best interest of justice. The accused will be remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 30 August 2022, while the court awaits instructions from the Director of Public Prosecution on this matter.
