MEN CONVICTED OF MURDER
The Durban High Court has convicted Siyabonga Ngubane and Sthembiso Khomo for the murder of Manga Vusumuzi Khumalo in March 2024 in Umlazi, Q Section. Ngubane was also found guilty of unlawful possess of firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Prior to the incident the men conspired to kill Khumalo who had suffered a spinal injury in a previous attack and was wheelchair bound. To achieve this, they armed themselves, and on 28 March 2024 Khomo drove Ngubane to Umlazi. Ngubane shot and killed Khumalo and then Khomo fetched him (Ngubane), and they fled the scene in a motor vehicle. Khumalo died on the scene with the cause of death being multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Following the incident, community members mobilised others to assist in finding the accused. The police were also alerted, and the accused were arrested shortly after.
In the state’s case, Adv. Bonginkosi Mbokazi led ballistic evidence as well cellphone evidence. SAPS officials who attended the scene also testified.
Ngubane was convicted on murder as well as the firearm charges. Khomo was convicted of murder. The case was postponed to 29 May 2025 for arguments on sentence.
