Post Office Alleged Robber Granted Bail

The Galeshewe District Court has granted bail to Frans Dillon Morakile (27), accused in the Post Office armed robbery. The accused is facing a charge of robbery, with aggravating circumstances. It is alleged that on the day of the commissioning of the crime, the accused together with his accomplice, entered the Post Office where they accosted and pointed employees with firearms.

During the robbery, the accused managed to take money, amounting to about R230 000, before fleeing on foot. The community members launch their crime-busting operation, to assist in looking for the suspects, and they successfully apprehended the accused, before handing him over to the Police. The accused was found with money running into thousands of rands, together with the firearms that were used during the robbery.

The bail application commenced on 01 August 2022 and was adjourned to 02 August 2022, for judgement. During the bail application judgement, the Magistrate outlined the reasons why the court could not reject the applicant's bail application. The court stated that the state could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt, that the accused will not attend to his case if granted bail.

That the is no likelihood, that the accused will endanger the lives of the community members and that the accused had no previous or pending cases against him. He was released on R500 bail and was ordered not to interfere with the witnesses, and to avoid being in the vicinity of the Mankurwaneng Post Office Branch.

The case has been adjourned to 06 September 2022, as investigations led by Police are ongoing.
