FIVE ACCUSED APPEARED IN COURT IN R100 MILLION DRUG LAB CASE
Five accused arrested following the discovery of a clandestine drug manufacturing laboratory with an estimated street value of R100 million at a farm in Hekpoort, near Krugersdorp, appeared before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, Trent Coetzer (36), Nakedi Makwesi (44), Evan-Lee Mohapi (25), Donell Coetzer (28), and Lyle Johnson (21), face charges relating to the manufacturing of and dealing in illegal drugs.
It is alleged that law enforcement authorities received information regarding suspected illegal drug manufacturing activities at the premises. Following the issuing of a search warrant, officers conducted a search operation at the farm, where a clandestine drug laboratory was discovered. The five accused were arrested at the scene.
The operation was led by the Hawks’ Narcotics Bureau, working in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Head Office Crime Intelligence, the Special Task Force, and the West Rand K-9 Unit. Preliminary estimates place the value of the laboratory and its contents at approximately R100 million.
The matter was postponed to 21 October 2026 for the verification of the accused’s residential addresses and the hearing of a formal bail application.
All five accused remain in custody.
The National Prosecuting Authority remains committed to working closely with law enforcement agencies to combat organised crime and to ensure that those involved in the manufacture and distribution of illegal drugs are held accountable before the law.
