CASE AGAINST “CAT” MATLALA AND CO-ACCUSED POSTPONED FOR PRE-TRIAL PROCEEDINGS
The pre-trial conference in the case against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his co-accused, Musa Kekana, Tiego Floyd Mabusela, Tsakane Matlala, and Zandile Nthabiseng Nzama, is scheduled to commence in the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Johannesburg, on 26 February 2026. Matlala’s legal team applied for a court order to facilitate consultations with their client after experiencing difficulties accessing him. The court subsequently ordered prison authorities to provide a consultation room that allows for unobstructed, face-to-face meetings and the exchange of documents necessary for pre-trial preparations. The order will be effective from 16 to 17 February 2026.
The accused face 25 charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, arising from three separate shooting incidents that allegedly occurred between August 2022 and January 2024. The State further alleges that the accused were involved in orchestrating a shooting, subsequently laundering money linked to the alleged plot, and utilising a fraudulent invoice to conceal the source of the funds and mislead the court.
