REPEAT OFFENDER SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING A CHILD
Thaba Nchu, Free State – The Regional Court in Thaba-Nchu has convicted and sentenced Thapelo Johannes Ntoagae (43) to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for raping a 4-year-old girl. The sentencing was delivered today, 09 September 2025. The incident occurred on 08 October 2023, when Ntoagae took the child to his shack and raped her. The victim’s mother, unable to find her, sent another child to search after a witness saw Ntoagae with the girl. Upon locating the victim, the mother took her to the hospital, where a doctor confirmed signs of forceful penetration. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Ntoagae’s arrest and charge of rape.
Lacking DNA evidence or a direct eyewitness, the state built a strong circumstantial case. Due to the victim’s age, she did not testify, but a Victim Impact Statement, facilitated by Court Preparation Officer Dipuo Sephapo, supported the prosecution. Senior Public Prosecutor Ntai Letaba argued in aggravation, noting Ntoagae’s prior convictions: attempted rape in 2002 and rape in 2008, for which he served 20 years and was on parole during the current offence. The court found him guilty, sentencing him to life imprisonment without parole, ensuring he remains incarcerated for life.
This sentence reinforces the fight against gender-based violence, particularly against children. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) praises the prosecution team and the Investigating Officer’s meticulous work, reflecting the NPA’s commitment to justice in numerous similar cases across the country.
