SEXUAL OFFENCES COURT SECURES 25-YEAR SENTENCE FOR RAPIST OF MINOR

Bloemfontein – The Bloemfontein Sexual Offences Court has sentenced Kamohelo Madito (33) to 25 years of direct imprisonment for the rape of a 13-year-old girl. The incident occurred on 23 September 2023, when the victim and her 12-year-old sister were alone at home while their mother attended a night vigil. The accused, who is both a neighbour and an uncle to the victim, entered their home armed with a firearm. He threatened the 13-year-old, forced her to undress, and raped her while her younger sister was present in the same room.

The matter was promptly reported by the victim to her mother, leading to the swift arrest of the accused. Despite threats from the perpetrator, both sisters demonstrated extraordinary bravery by testifying in court. Their courage played a critical role in securing justice. Following a thorough trial, the court found Madito guilty, and on 19 August 2025, he was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment. Advocate Azola Key prosecuted the matter on behalf of the State.

This sentence sends a clear message that the NPA will not tolerate crimes of sexual violence, particularly those committed against children. The bravery shown by the young victims in reporting and testifying against the accused is commendable. Their courage ensured that a dangerous perpetrator was permanently removed from society.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) reaffirms its commitment to the fight against gender-based violence and the protection of vulnerable groups within our communities. All cases of sexual violence encroach on the rights to dignity and privacy of the victims as enshrined in our constitution, hence the NPA aggressively prosecutes these cases.
