Suspects Denied Bail In an Assault Case

The Taung Magistrates’ Court denied bail to two suspects Rebaone Malekanyo (32) and Tumelo Tlonkwe (31), and their case was postponed to 24 February 2022 for further investigations. In passing this judgement, the magistrate agreed with the state’s sentiment that it is in the interest of justice for the duo to remain in custody until the matter is concluded. The pair are charged with assault to cause grievous bodily harm and police are also investigating a case of kidnapping and murder.

Their court appearance emanates from an incident that allegedly occurred at Modimong village on 31 October 2021, when the two were spotted by Tshepang Seelo (32) and his girlfriend stealing some items at a nearby house. They then confronted the couple and assaulted them, and subsequently took Seelo (deceased) and left his girlfriend on the road. A lifeless body of Seelo was later found in a furrow on 03 November 2021 and the duo handed themselves at Taung police station on 02 November 2021.
